Sayka Sushi in Westlake Village Closed in the Summer of 2017

sayka sushi.JPG

Sayka Sushi, located next to Rustico at 1125 Lindero Canyon Road (at Kanan), Suite A1-B in Westlake Village, closed sometime in the summer of 2017. That’s all I got on this one.

Sayka. What does that mean? It reminds me of Sanka, an instant, decaffeinated coffee brand now owned by Kraft Foods, The 1941 Laurel and Hardy comedy Great Guns includes a scene in which Stan Laurel, in an Army mess hall line, is handed a cup of coffee. He asks "Sanka?", and the mess attendant replies, "You're welcome!" This has nothing to do with Sayka of course but I do love Laurel and Hardy.

Jennifer Brecker was looking forward to dining at The Natural Cafe in Newbury Park today, only to find that it was closed. And closed it is indeed, about a week or so ago at 1714 Newbury Road, as confirmed by a call to the still open Westlake Village location and as evidenced by its absence from The Natural Cafe website at thenaturalcafe.com/locations. Sorry to see this local eatery closed.

A visit to its website and Facebook page confirmed that Niroj served its last kebab on Sunday, July 31st. Niroj opened here in early 2013.

Beanscene Expresso in Oak Park is Closing at the End of July After 23 Years in Business

Beanscene Expresso, an Oak Park mainstay for over two decades at 610 N. Lindero Canyon Road (in the Kids World strip mall), has decided to close its doors at the end of July.  Owners stated a number of factors, including the cost of rent, labor, insurance and other items.  Many folks will be sad to see them go.

A little over 3 1/2 years ago, the El Pollo Loco previously in the center closed and became a drive-thru Starbucks. I would expect that type of competition, literally 150 yards away, did not help future prospect for Beanscene.
