Shelter Hope Pet Shop teams up with Thousand Oaks Toyota to give back to First Responders

This is the opportunity you’ve been waiting for. Shelter Hope Pet Shop and Thousand Oaks Toyota are teaming up to bring our community a Heart Warming Adoption event! Thousand Oaks Toyota, Celebrating 50th Anniversary and Counting, has generously offered to cover the adoption fees for First Responders who are looking to rescue a Shelter Hope Pet Shop doggie! First responders, including; Fire Department, Sheriff Department, Doctors, Nurses, and Police Department members. The group members can select or register to adopt an adoptable pet looking for a forever home and Thousand Oaks Toyota will pay the adoption fee.

Local residents are also invited to come out and take home their future family member, and help find forever homes for local shelter doggies. This amazing Adoption and Sales Event will be held on Saturday, April 27 from 12 NOON to 5 p.m. at Thousand Oaks Toyota, located at 2401 Thousand Oaks Blvd. Thousand Oaks.

During the event, Shelter Hope Pet Shop will be working with their volunteers to place available doggies with their forever families.

The Shelter Hope Pet Shop is in a storefront space, at Janss Marketplace, located off the Moorpark exit on the 101 Freeway at the intersection of Moorpark Road and Hillcrest Drive in Thousand Oaks. The shopping center has provided the free space to the non-profit animal rescue organization for eight years. Shelter Hope Pet Shop has rescued and placed over 6,000 dogs in their forever loving home. They provide a fun, friendly place where visitors and volunteers can meet and interact with animals needing adoption. City of Thousand Oaks Annual Public Works Week Open House on May 21-22, 2019

Public Works Week is an open house event to educate the Conejo Valley and surrounding cities’ youth and adults on how Public Works provides service to the community. The two-day event will include demonstrations on tree maintenance, graffiti removal, street repair, water conservation, recycling, bicycle safety, water operations, and wastewater collection. Highlights include a bus ride through the car wash in a Compressed Natural Gas bus and demonstrations of the landscape aerial lift.

Community Champions Day at Sherwood Country Club on Thursday, October 25th

When the Charles Schwab Cup season’s top 54 players return to Sherwood Country Club from October 25-28 for the Invesco QQQ Championship, the competition won’t be the only thing that fans have to look forward to. Fans can enjoy a host of community-centric events and fan features while they tour the course grounds, including a Community Champions Day, celebrity pro-am groups, food trucks, a craft beer garden and more.

The week kicks off on Thursday, Oct. 25 with a Community Champions Day that features legends from not only PGA TOUR Champions, but also actors like Alfonso Ribeiro, Kunal Nayyar and Kevin Rahm. Fans will also be able to watch household names Caitlyn Jenner and Rick Dees as they compete alongside the pros. Community Champions Day is free for the public to attend and watch the pro-am event where competitors are paired with a PGA TOUR Champions professional, enjoy lunch from on-course concessions.

Adding to the family-friendly atmosphere of Community Champions Day, kids who are on-site Thursday can visit the driving range to take part in the Youth Clinic sponsored by the tournament’s Official Charity Partner, Sherwood Cares Foundation. The clinic is open to children of all ages and will feature golf’s legends giving informative detail about how to improve their swing. While on the range, spectators may also witness a skills challenge – a special drive, chip and putt competition featuring competing charities supported by The First Tee of Los Angeles and the Sherwood Cares Foundation.

Friday through Sunday, fans at the Invesco QQQ Championship will have local, flavorful food options to enjoy during competition rounds thanks to an array of food trucks on site. Located between Nos. 11 and 16, fans can take a break from watching the likes of Bernhard Langer, Miguel Angel Jimenez and Vijay Singh by enjoying local Los Angeles favorites at Baby’s Badass Burgers, Mamma Italy and Ventura BBQ. In addition to the newly offered food trucks, the tournament will also feature a Craft Beer Garden located adjacent to the 9th green. The beer garden is open to the public, age 21 and up, and will feature craft beer from Ten Barrel Brewing Company.

Those looking for an activity to help stay active are encouraged to register for the first annual Dole 5K Family Fun Run & Walk benefitting FOOD Share. The run, which coincides with the tournament’s second round of competition, will offer participants a scenic view of Sherwood Country Club’s front nine. As part of their $30 race entry fee ($35 on-site entry), participants will receive two (2) Grounds tickets to the Invesco QQQ Championship for either Saturday or Sunday, valued at $40, along with an official event t-shirt. Youth rates start at $15 for ages 14 and under, with prices increasing to $20 for on-site entry. Race day registration begins at 6:00 a.m. followed by a race start-time of 7:15 a.m.

The event is pleased to offer complimentary tickets for all Active Duty, Military Reserve, National Guard Service Members, Military Retirees, Veterans and their dependents, courtesy of CBC Federal Credit Union. Following the conclusion of competition on Saturday, Fleetwood Mac cover band Twisted Gypsy is scheduled to perform on the Croquet Lawn at Sherwood Country Club. Entry to the concert is free with purchase of a daily grounds ticket to the Invesco QQQ Championship, making the experience a $20 value. As an additional bonus, the Sherwood Country Club Clubhouse will be opening its doors to all ticketholders at 3:00 p.m. in preparation for the concert. Guests are invited to enjoy the view of 18, grab a bite to eat from Mamma Italy’s food truck and relax on the Croquet Lawn to claim seats before the show starts.

Fans can enjoy all of these great community and family initiatives at the Invesco QQQ Championship with a variety of ticket options. Good-Any-One-Day grounds tickets are available for $20, or fans can enjoy three days of grounds access for just $50 (Friday-Sunday). For every 2018 daily grounds ticket purchased between June 10 and October 12, the Invesco QQQ Championship will donate a daily grounds ticket to local charity through the Sherwood Cares Foundation. Clubhouse tickets are also available starting at $40 for a daily pass and $95 for a three-day pass (Friday-Sunday).

The Channel Islands Harbor will host the 3rd Annual Electric Car Show from 9:30 to 3 p.m. on Sunday, September 9, 2018 at Harbor View Park (also referred to as West Channel Park) near Marine Emporium Landing.

If you are interested in electric vehicles and would like to learn more, plan to visit and check out the variety of makes and models that will be on display. Talk to electric vehicle owners and learn from their experiences. Learn about very low cost commuting that also lowers air pollution.

If you are an electric vehicle owner – register and bring your car to the event. Share your real life experience about driving an electric vehicle with others in your community and network with other electric vehicle drivers and educate the public about the advantages of electric vehicle use and ownership. This is an opportunity for us to come together to make connections and influence change.

This National Drive Electric Week event is presented by Plug In America, the Sierra Club and the Electric Auto Association. The Shoppes at Westlake Village and Tifa Chocolate & Gelato are presenting a Free Outdoor Movie Night featuring The Wizard of Oz on Friday, August 10th at 8pm. The screening will take place at the front fountain outside of Tifa.

Humane Society of Ventura County Birthday Bash & Open House in Ojai on June 9th

Stop by the Humane Society of Ventura County between 10-3 on Saturday, June 9, 2018 to celebrate 86 years of service to Ventura County. Get a behind the scenes peek at the facility, interact with animals, tour the kennels and clinic, meet the staff, and learn about different volunteer opportunities. Bring the whole family to enjoy refreshments, participate in a treasure hunt and learn more about how YOU can make a difference in the lives of animals in need!

Humane Educator, Robin Satnick, will have a variety of activities for children along with information on responsible pet ownership. Our Humane Officers will be on hand to give you a look at the responsibilities and duties of protecting animals throughout the county. We are pleased to welcome back Firefly Ceramics and their Tiles for Tails program. For a $25 donation benefiting our new kennels, you can design your own tile that will be permanently displayed on site here at the Shelter. 

What would a visit to a shelter be without the main attraction—the animals! There will be a full house of critters available for adoption; you never know when you are going to meet your new best friend!
