Veterans Day Commemoration at the Reagan Library on Monday, November 11, 2024

To honor the men and women who serve in the United States Armed Forces, the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library will be hosting its annual Veterans Day Event on Monday, November 11, 2024. The day’s activities include live musical entertainment, a civil war encampment, a military vehicle display and a program honoring all branches of our military.

The program, which begins at 11:00 a.m., includes an honor guard, live music, and a program that will be announced at www.reaganfoundation.org/programs-events/events-calendar/veterans-day-commemoration-2024. The event is free to attend; however, reservations are recommended.

The program includes an honor guard, live music, and a program featuring keynote speaker United States Marine Chief Warrant Officer-4 Randy Gaddo (Ret.).  In 1983, Randy Gaddo was in Beirut, Lebanon with the 24th Marine Amphibious Unit, as part of a multination peacekeeping force.  He was there in October 1983 when terrorists drove a truck bomb into the U.S. barracks, killing 240 U.S. Servicemen. Being one of the lucky ones to not be hurt, he was part of crew who helped look for survivors, clean up the bomb site, and retrieve the bodies of those who lost their lives.

Dia de los Muertos Celebration at Santa Paula Art Museum and Pierce Brothers Santa Paula Cemetery on November 2, 2024

Guests of all ages are invited to celebrate Día de los Muertos at the Santa Paula Art Museum and Pierce Brothers Santa Paula Cemetery on Saturday, November 2, 2024 (hours and activities vary by location). Admission is free. This free, family-friendly community celebration offers traditional arts and craft-making activities, mariachi music, Aztec and Folklórico dancers, face painting, altar installations, and more. Día de los Muertos attire is encouraged!

Visitors can begin at either location and proceed to the next. Pick up a Día de los Muertos passport at either site, collect a stamp at both locations, and return it to Santa Paula Cemetery to be entered into a free raffle prize drawing. In honor of Día de los Muertos, Pierce Brothers Santa Paula Cemetery will celebrate with a day of festivities for family and friends. Build an ofrenda on a loved one’s grave or contribute to a community altar. Activities will include Aztec and Folklórico dancers, Mariachi music, face painting, sugar skull decorating, crafts, vendors, and more. Mass will be held at 12:30 p.m. with the blessing of graves to follow by Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish.

13th Annual Taste of Conejo Event in Westlake Village on Thursday, October 24, 2024

The thirteenth annual Taste of Conejo, presented by the Greater Conejo Valley Chamber of Commerce, returns on Thursday, October 24th from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. (VIP Hour: 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. (General Admission: 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm), at the Hyatt Regency Westlake.

"Boo at the Zoo" Event at The Teaching Zoo at Moorpark College, October 19-20, 26-27

The Teaching Zoo at Moorpark College, 7075 Campus Road, Moorpark, turns wildly spooktacular the weekends of October 19-20 and 26-27, 2024 from 11am to 4:30pm for “Boo at the Zoo,” the annual Halloween-themed event that features animal shows, trick or treating, kids’ scavenger hunt, food trucks, free kids’ crafts and more.

For the family-fun event, the Zoo will be draped in decorations, and people of all ages can closely view the more than 100 animals cared for at the Zoo.

Admission is $12 for ages 12-16, $10 for ages 2-12 and $10 for seniors (65+). Kids ages 2 and under are admitted free. Tickets available at zoo.moorparkcollege.edu/boo-at-the-zoo.

The Teaching Zoo at Moorpark College is the only zoo in Ventura County and is the home of the Exotic Animal Training and Management Program, which started in 1971. The program offers preparation for those interested in entering the expanding animal care industry. The students study zoo keeping, basic medical care, wildlife education and training using positive reinforcement methods.

Halloween Haunt in the Park in Oxnard on Saturday, October 26, 2024

On Saturday, October 26th, The Downtown Oxnard Improvement Association will present “Halloween Haunt in the Park.” The kid-friendly thrills occur all evening from 4:00pm-7:00pm at Plaza Park in Downtown Oxnard. Event will feature Trick-or-Treat Village, with booths created by local organizations, bounce houses, face painting, crafts, games, music and more. Costume contest starts at 5:30pm.

Five07 Turkey Day Dash 5K and Zack Zernik Mile in Thousand Oaks on Thursday, November 28, 2024

Five07 presents the 2024 Turkey Day Dash on Thanksgiving Thursday, November 28, 2024. Register for the 5K road race or the Zack Zernik Mile (run/walk) at Cal Lutheran University in Thousand Oaks, 60 West Olsen Road.

Proceeds from the event will benefit local youth - Southeast Ventura County YMCA, Kiwanis Club of Thousand Oaks Foundation and Ventura County Council of Boy Scouts.

The Zack Zernik Mile is named for a Conejo Valley native and lifelong “Dasher” who lost his life in January 2023 at the age of 22. Zachary “Zack” Zernik, a graduate of Thousand Oaks High School, was climbing near Mount Boney outside Newbury Park when he lost his footing and fell. 

New this year: the Zack Zernik Memorial Scholarship, which will be awarded to two high school students. Winners will be announced before the start of the mile. To apply, go to turkeydaydash.org/zack-zernik-scholarship.

Festivities start at 7 am, mile run/walk at 8 am and 5K at 8:30 am.

Pleasant Valley Recreation & Park District presents the annual Camarillo Christmas Parade and Santa’s Village on Saturday, December 14, 2024

Bring the family to cheer on local bands, equestrian groups, floats, and Santa! The parade starts at Las Posas and Temple Ave. and ends at the Community Center. The parade begins at 10 a.m. and lasts 1 1/2 to 2 hours.

Check out Santa's Village! 10am- 2pm at the Community Center, 1605 Burnley St. There will be shopping, food trucks, live music, photos with Santa, and other free activities.
