IKEA Announces New "IKEA Plan and Order Points with Pick-up" Location Coming This Fall to Thousand Oaks

Last month, IKEA announced it will be expanding its presence in the Greater Los Angeles Metropolitan Area with new locations in Santa Monica, Thousand Oaks, Laguna Hills, and Ontario.

Thousand Oaks and Ontario will be home to two new IKEA Plan and Order Points with Pick-up, allowing customers to plan, order, and collect purchases made in-studio, in-store and online. At an IKEA Plan & order point with Pick-up, you can get support from IKEA experts for home furnishing solutions that require a bit more help – such as kitchens, bedrooms and bathrooms. In addition, IKEA will be opening two IKEA Pick-Up Points in Santa Monica and Laguna Hills, where you can pick up your purchases from IKEA.

While this may be a welcome surprise to many in the Conejo Valley, keep in mind that these stores are just a small fraction of the size of a traditional 300,000 sq ft IKEA store. The Plan and Order Points stores typically range from a few thousand to perhaps 10,000 sq ft. There are some items on hand that you may purchase and take with you, but for the most part, you order and either have items delivered, or pick them up at a later date.

Where? The T.O. Acorn has identified the location of the store will be in the CVS plaza, corner of T.O. Blvd and Moorpark Road.

Meatballs? Unlikely.

Former 99 Cents Only Store in Thousand Oaks to Re-Open as Dollar Tree

The 99 Cents Only Store at 950 East Avenida De Los Arboles in Thousand Oaks, along with all other 99 Cents Only stores, recently closed its doors due to the company’s financial issues. However, just a few weeks later, there is a “coming soon” sign up on the building.

In late May, Dollar Tree announced it would be purchasing up to 170 of the closed 99 Cents Only store locations and will be reopening them later this Fall.

Prior to 99 Cents Only opening at this location in early 2013, the Roller Dome roller skating facility operated here from May 1995 until October 2010.

Status of Planned Homewood Suites & Home2 Suites Hotel at Janss Marketplace in Thousand Oaks

This is a rendering of the new hotel that was included in the Planning Commission meeting agenda on October 23rd. This is a view from the courtyard fountain near Buca Di Peppo and Sharky's.

There are plans in the works for a 5-story, 216 room Homewood Suites & Home2 Suites Hotel at Janss Marketplace that will be situated in the space previously occupied by Marshall's (until 2017) and dental offices (until 2019) and currently used for the Reign of Terror Haunted House.

Irvine-based Greens Development will develop and operate the hotel. There will be 173 rooms with king beds and 43 rooms with double-queen beds. Each suite will have a full kitchen. There will be 13,000 sq ft of retail space on the bottom floor. The 2nd floor will have an outdoor pool, deck and planter area.

On October 23rd, city staff and the Planning Commission recommended that the City Council approve a zoning change from 35 feet to 75 feet for the hotel. Several other structures at Janss have received zoning changes in the past, including the former Burlington (44'), Regal Cinemas (40.5') and parking structure (47' 9"). Other tenants at Janss have given a thumbs up for this development.

If the zoning overlay is approved, construction is anticipated to begin next spring with a target opening date of winter 2025. The last new hotel in Thousand Oaks opened in 2009 (Hampton Inn).
