ALDI Thousand Oaks to Open in December (December 14th)

Follow-up 12/14/20: ALDI Thousand Oaks is now open.

The ALDI U.S. website indicates the ALDI Thousand Oaks store at Janss Marketplace will be opening its doors on Monday, December 14, 2020. However, there were no signs at the store confirming that specific date, nor would ALDI U.S. confirm the date that has been displayed on their website for the last week.

What I can tell you is that store certainly looks ready to open on the 14th! The shopping carts are in place in front of the store and the shelves appear fully stocked.

So….if you’d like to be one of the first ones into the store, 9am tomorrow (Monday) morning may be it. Or maybe not. But the actual date is quite soon.

Several folks have asked what ALDI is. ALDI is retail grocery chain, with over 2,000 stores in 37 states. The German chain anticipates becoming the third-largest grocery retailer by store count in the U.S. by the end of 2022.

Siblings Bakery Coming Soon to Thousand Oaks (NOW OPEN)

UPDATE: Siblings Bakery opened on January 14th

Siblings Bakery will be opening a location at 1625 E. Thousand Oaks Boulevard in Thousand Oaks in the former home of Jaime Cakes.

Siblings Bakery has an existing location in Ventura that makes custom birthday cakes, wedding cakes, specialty cakes and more.

This new location will continue the custom work as well as sell retail goodies at the store. Deepti, the owner, anticipates opening sometime in December. Learn more at www.siblingsbakery.com.

An Amazon Retail Store Appears to Be Coming to The Promenade at Westlake in Thousand Oaks

It appears an Amazon retail store will be occupying the former Vintage Grocers/Bristol Farms space at The Promenade at Westlake in Thousand Oaks. This sign was posted a couple days ago (thanks Amelia for the heads up!) and there's some construction work going on. The sign indicates Amazon Retail LLC is applying for a general license to sell alcoholic beverages for offsite consumption as well as a license to allow beer, wine and/or distilled spirits tasting at this location.

The Promenade and Amazon were not able to confirm the name of the new store, but perhaps it could be an Amazon Fresh store, like the one that recently opened in Woodland Hills. Or it could be something else. Amazon is currently recruiting a Store Manager for the store. " Amazon Stores is a unique extension of Amazon.com that focuses on in-person shopping experiences through our retail stores."

Perhaps we will find out more soon.

Construction of ALDI at Janss Marketplace in Thousand Oaks Finally Underway

Former Toys R Us store wall taken down as construction gets underway.

It has been just under 13 months since we first announced that ALDI is slated to open at the former Toys R Us store at Janss Marketplace. Finally, we’re seeing some activity.

Last month, ALDI announced it had opened its 2,000th store in the U.S. and plans to open 70 new stores by the end of 2020. ALDI anticipates becoming the third largest grocery retailer by store count by the end of 2022.

O'Gara Coach Announced Lamborghini Westlake Village is Now Open

O’Gara Coach has expanded to open its Lamborghini Westlake Village Showroom. The 2,400 sq ft showroom will house the newest releases of the Huracan, Urus and Aventador models. Lamborghini Westlake Village will also carry certified pre-owned models..

In addition to Lamborghini, O’Gara Westlake Village carries brands such as Alfa Romeo, Bentley, Genesis, Maserati and Rolls-Royce. Lamborghini Westlake Village is located at 3610 Thousand Oaks Boulevard, Thousand Oaks and will be open Monday through Friday from 10:00 am to 7:00 pm and Saturday from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm.

The showroom is planned to open in early August and will be operating within CDC guidelines to maintain a safe and healthy atmosphere for our clients.

Agoura Wine & Beer Co. Coming Soon to Whizin Market Square in Agoura Hills

Agoura Wine & Beer Co. is under construction at the Whizin Market Square in Agoura Hills. The sign can be seen from the back entrance off of Agoura Road. No other information at this time but they do have an Instagram account (@agourawine).for updates. (Thanks to Gregory L for the heads up.)

TJ Maxx Coming Soon Next to Home Depot in Newbury Park

Jen Brecker of Newbury Park snapped this shot of the soon to be T.J. Maxx store in Newbury Park, next to Home Depot in the former Staples location.

T.J. Maxx is a brand of The TJX Companies, which also owns Marshalls, HomeGoods and several others. T.J. Maxx was founded in 1976. TJX bought Marshalls in 1995. T.J. Maxx is called T.K. Maxx in Europe to avoid being confused with UK chain TJ Hughes. Origination of the name T.J. Maxx? I researched and researched but for the life of me can’t figure it out.

Grand opening date TBA.

Other local TJX branded stores in the local area include T.J. Maxx stores in Moorpark, Westlake Village and Oxnard, Marshalls stores in Thousand Oaks, Simi Valley and Oxnard and HomeGoods stores in Thousand Oaks, Camarillo, Oxnard and Simi Valley.

Oakmont Senior Living Facility Under Construction on Canwood Street in Agoura Hills

For those wondering what all the grading and construction is going on at Canwood Street, just west of Kanan Road, this will be an Oakmont Senior Living facility.

Planned is a two-story, 71,020 square foot assisted living and memory care facility with 75 units and an anticipated resident population of 86 people.

Twenty-six of the units will be designated for residents requiring memory care (e.g. residents with Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia).

Amenities at the facility will include cooking and dining facilities, activity rooms, beauty salon, library, fitness center, private theater and outside courtyards.

The plan is to use the southernmost section of the 5.73 acre lot for construction to minimize impact to existing oak trees on the northern portion of the site.

Hobby Lobby Coming to Former Walmart Location in Simi Valley (Opened October 2, 2020)

UPDATE: Hobby Lobby Simi Valley opened its 60th California location at Cochran Street and Sycamore Drive in Simi Valley on October 2nd. The 53,000 square foot facility is open Monday to Saturday, 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. www.hobbylobby.com/stores/search/933?lat=34.2694474&long=-118.781482

Don’t know the timing yet, but Hobby Lobby will be opening at some point in the former Walmart space at 2801 Cochran Street in Simi Valley. Hobby Lobby will be occupying two-thirds of the building, with Planet Fitness occupying the other third.

Walmart opened in January 2013 and closed in mid-2018. prior to that it was a Mervyns.
