City of Camarillo Announces Costco Seeks to Develop New Location in Town by Mid to Late 2024

The City of Camarillo announced the other day that Costco has submitted an application to develop a 160,000 square foot location with a freestanding gas station situated on a vacant lot at the west end of the Camarillo Town Center, south side of Highway 101 and west of Home Depot near Springville Drive.

The city indicated it is an ideal location for Camarillo residents. Over the last 12 months, an estimated nearly 37,000 Camarillo residents visited the Oxnard store nearly 388,000 visits, nearly 13,000 visited the Westlake Village store for nearly 90,000 visits, and over 6,000 visited the Simi Valley store for nearly 33,000 visits. A local Camarillo store would recapture quite a bit of this business.

Costco and the owner of the vacant lot are currently in the process of negotiations, so at this point while the development is not guaranteed, if all goes as anticipated, the store could open by mid to late 2024.

Bikes & Cookies Now Open at Whizin Market Square in Agoura Hills (NOW CLOSED)

The corner where Mimi’s Cafe used to reside and that, sometime in 2023, Amy’s Drive-Thru will be serving organic, vegetarian and vegan fast food.

The drive-thru Starbucks to be built at the corner of Moorpark Road and Avenida De Las Flores in Thousand Oaks is certain to be a destination for Thousand Oaks High School students across the street.

Sue's Candy is Coming Soon to The Oaks Shopping Mall in Thousand Oaks (NOW OPEN)

UPDATE: Sue’s Candy is now open as of late August.

Sue’s Candy is “coming soon'“ to the lower level of The Oaks. There’s already a Sue’s Candy at The Oaks’ sister mall, Pacific View, in Ventura. Otherwise, I knowing about Sue’s Candy at this point in time. Stay tuned.

Sue’s will join See’s Candies and Lolli and Pops to provide the candy requirements of mall visitors.

Amazon Fresh Store Signs are Up at The Promenade at Westlake in Westlake Village

“Signs” of progress towards the grand opening of the Amazon Fresh store at The Promenade at Westlake can now be seen. Still don’t know the timing but they are currently hiring at www.amazon.jobs.

Vintage Grocers operated at this location from October 2016 to March 2019, preceded by Bristol Farms from 1996 to 2016.

The Moorpark Amazon Fresh store at 742 Los Angeles Avenue opened in February.

Wild Fork Foods Meat & Seafood Market is Now Open at the Northgate Plaza in Thousand Oaks

When Will the Amazon Fresh Stores Open in Westlake Village and Moorpark?

UPDATE: Westlake Village / Thousand Oaks location to open on August 4, 2022.

Our friend Amelia S was the first to notice the sign on the former Vintage Grocers / Bristol Farms at The Promenade at Westlake on October 10, 2020 that Amazon Retail LLC had applied to transfer a liquor license to the entity, which led us to discover that an Amazon Fresh store would be occupying this spot in the future.

It is now mid-December 2021, one week before Christmas, 12 months later, and the store is still not open.

There are Amazon Fresh signs prominently displayed, so we suspect it will be happening at some point, perhaps in 2022.

Amazon Fresh is also opening a store at The Village at Moorpark, 742 New Los Angeles Avenue in what was previously a Staples. (UPDATE: THE MOORPARK STORE OPENED IN FEBRUARY 2022.)

They are currently hiring store associates and other positions for the Moorpark store starting at $15.85 per hour plus up to a $3,000 signing bonus. So it does sound like the Moorpark store is closer to opening than the Westlake Village store.
