Nordstrom Rack Store Coming to Janss Marketplace in Thousand Oaks in Fall 2015

Last month, Nordstrom announced plans to open a 40,000 sq ft Nordstrom Rack at the Janss Marketplace in Thousand Oaks in fall 2015. The two-story store will occupy a portion of the existing Sears location, while Sears will continue occupying an anchor position on the primary floor of the existing store.

This Nordstrom Rack will be about a mile away from the full-line Nordstrom store located at The Oaks shopping mall, which opened there in 2008.

Nordstrom Rack is the off-price retail division of Nordstrom, Inc., offering customers a wide selection of on-trend apparel, accessories and shoes at an everyday savings of 30 to 70 percent off regular prices. "The Best Halloween Store Ever" is Returning Again to Thousand Oaks This Year

BestHalloweenStore2013.JPG

The former Thousand Oaks El Torito on 449 N. Moorpark Roadhas once again transformed into "The Best Halloween Store Ever!" The store opened on August 24th, over two months in advance of Halloween this year!

If you like blood and gore, this store has one of the most jaw dropping displays you'll find, making ample use of what used to be the El Torito kitchen area. Not for the faint of heart. But there are other sections of the store that are a bit more tame and equally entertaining. Of course, the store sells costumes, ghoulish decor and other great Halloween items for all ages. Whole Foods Market will bring locally grown, healthy and natural food to the communities of West Ventura County. Their mission is to sell the highest quality natural and organic products available, while caring about communities and environment, and promoting health through healthy eating education.

"We are thrilled to have Whole Foods as part of The Collection at RiverPark," said Peter Houck, General Manager of The Collection. Their brand is a perfect fit for what we want to offer our customers at The Collection and is emblematic of the Southern California lifestyle."

There is only one other Whole Foods Market in Ventura County, but no other Whole Food Market looks quite the same as the one at The Collection. Artist Susan Stinsmuehlen-Amend's glass and tile mural "The Shopping List" adorns the facade of Whole Foods:

There's a "Sign" That A Baskin-Robbins Will Be Opening in Thousand Oaks

Update 11/9/12: This newest Conejo Valley Baskins Robbins opened about a week and a half ago! 1769 E. Avenida de los Arboles, Thousand Oaks (805.409.7431)

Posted 8/17/12: There are Baskin-Robbins 31 Flavors in Westlake Village, Newbury Park, Agoura, Simi Valley, Moorpark and other Ventura County locations but at this moment in time there is no Baskin-Robbins within Thousand Oaks. By the looks of the sign at the Oakbrook Plaza on Avenida De Los Arboles in Thousand Oaks, it appears another ice cream shop will be gracing our presence. It is perhaps strategically located next door to Cardio Barre to provide additional incentive for a good workout.

No details or word on open date currently available. Check baskinrobbins.com and let us know so we can add yet another ice creamery to this list of over 80 such places around Ventura County.

16-Screen Century Theatres to Open at The Collection at RiverPark in Oxnard on Oct 26

In case you hadn't already noticed, there's a big new shopping center being built on the northeast side of the 101 freeway in Oxnard, between the Oxnard and Vineyard exits, called The Collection at RiverPark.

If you're a Target fan, the center already features a 150,000 sq ft state-of-the-art Target store that opened over a year ago in July 2011. I've been there with the kids and I can honestly say this is the nicest, coolest looking Target store I've ever been to. There's also covered parking, which kind of nice.

Shea Properties continues construction of The Collection at RiverPark and has announced a number of great new additions to our local shopping and dining scene!  Here's what is coming:

Century Theatres will be opening a brand new 16 screen location on Friday, October 26th (just in time for Halloween)! Two of the screens will use their new XD (Extreme Digital) technology that features a larger screen, up to 38' × 70' and improvements in audio and digital projection.

In November 2012, they plan to open Kabuki Japanese Restaurant, Panera Bread, Menchie's Frozen Yogurt, Five Guys Burgers and Fries, Color Me Mine (do it yourself pottery painting studio) and Massage Envy Spa.

In the spring of 2013 they anticipate the opening of REI Store, (outdoor gear and clothing), a Whole Foods Market and a Starbucks.

The Healthy Place Nutrition Wellness Center in Thousand Oaks Opened in June

A CVG friend who happened to be running down Moorpark Road last month alerted me to a new business at 540 North Moorpark Road (near the corner of Moorpark and Wilbur, to the left of LensCrafters), The Healthy Place. It took me awhile to make it over there, but today was the day.

I had just run a 10K in the heart of the San Fernando Valley on a day where the temperatures during the early morning race were in the 80s and by 11am it was well into the mid-90s. The 10K zapped all my energy and basically drained me. I was about to head home for a nap when I thought hey, now's the time to check out that new place!

Not knowing what I was getting into, I assumed it was something along the lines of a Jamba Juice. Order your smoothie, pay and be on your way. But soon I learned The Healthy Place is much more than that. Their 16 oz "healthy meal smoothies" are low sugar, low fat, low calorie, non dairy, high protein (25 grams or more), high fiber and available gluten or soy-free.

They say these smoothies made with Herb

From Burrito to Boo! Retail on Moorpark Road in Thousand Oaks This Fall

As CVG readers know, the Thousand Oaks El Torito on Moorpark Road served its last burrito on Tuesday, January 24th. Later it was announced that Chick-fil-A may be considering the vacant spot smack dab between Hooters on one side and Five Guys on the other. But...in the meantime...this fall something seasonal is coming to this spot at Moorpark Road.

And in memory to the prior occupant of this space. We miss your margaritas, El Torito!
