Parking Lot Renovations at Newbury Park Library During Next Several Months

The parking lot at the Newbury Park Library is over 20 years old and has reached the end of its useful life. Over the next two to three months, the asphalt lot will be replaced with new asphalt and pavers. There will also be water storage tanks installed for stormwater retention and upgrades to landscaping, with more drought tolerant plants and low-flow irrigation.

For more information about the project, visit the City of Thousand Oaks website at www.toaks.org or call 805.449.2225.

The library and businesses (B of A, Burt's Pharmacy, The Alamo, etc.) located at this location, at the west corner of Borchard Road and Michael Drive in Newbury Park, will remain open during renovations. A large portion of the lot is currently fenced off, so do plan for some extra time for parking during these summer months.

The farmers' market that was located here on Saturdays from 9am to 2pm has temporarily been relocated to the nearby King of Glory Church parking lot at 2500 Borchard Road.

Construction on Lynn Road Bike Lanes in Thousand Oaks to Begin on June 18th

The City of Thousand Oaks announced today that construction on the Lynn Road Bike Lanes Project will get underway on June 18, 2013. The project will add bike lanes in both directions along Lynn Road, between Hillcrest Drive and Avenida De Los Arboles. The addition of the bike lanes will connect to existing bike lanes on both ends of the project area, increasing vehicle, bicycle, and pedestrian safety.

Currently, bicyclists share a travel lane with vehicles or share the sidewalk with pedestrians along this 2.5 mile stretch of Lynn Road. The roadway will be expanded by narrowing the median between Camino Manzanas and Avenida de los Arboles and by widening the southbound roadway between Hillcrest Drive and Camino Manzanas. The project does not require the removal of any trees in the median. Vertical curbs and new sidewalks will be constructed in areas where rolled curbs currently exist. Drainage improvements will also be made in the project area. Two vehicle lanes of travel in each direction will remain after the project is completed.

Major project improvements will be completed in two phases:

Phase 1

Southbound Lynn Road - Hillcrest to Camino Manzanas (June 18 – Late August)

Northbound Lynn Road - Camino Manzanas to Arboles (June 18 – Mid September)

Phase 2

Southbound Lynn Road - Camino Manzanas to Arboles (Late August – Late November)

Northbound Lynn Road - Hillcrest to Camino Manzanas (Mid November – Late November)

Single-lane closures will be necessary to perform construction work throughout each phase of the project.

Additional information about the Lynn Road Bike Lanes Project, including funding sources, project background and history, construction timelines, lane closures, renderings, and answers to frequently asked questions can be found online at www.toaks.org/lynnroad.

Sushi Teri Teppan House Opening Soon on Daily Drive in Camarillo

Well, Sushi Teri closed sometime in 2015. Let's see what's next for this location.

Final Update 5/13/13: Sushi Teri Teppan House in Camarillo opened its doors to the public today. It looks a lot brighter in here. While pretty much the same, I was a bit sad to see the humongous sushi conveyor belt completely removed. I thought that was so cool.

Update 4/30/13: Sounds like Sushi Teri Camarillo will be opening sometime in the next few weeks according to the person that answered their phone at 805.389.5455.

Original post 3/21/13:

In the space previously occupied by Yamato at 1901 East Daily Drive in Camarillo there is a sign that says a new sushi bar is coming to town...Sushi Teri Teppan House. Great news!

Yamato closed its doors last summer but left behind quite a nice, large rotating sushi bar (in fact, this easily the longest rotaing sushi conveyor belt i've seen in 30 years of sushi consumption) and teppan restaurant.

Thousand Oaks City Watch Update Regarding Recent Gang Related Arrests

Here is a "City Watch" update from Senior Deputy Tim Lohman of the Thousand Oaks Police Department. If you would like these updates directly from via email, click here for more information.

The Thousand Oaks Police Department is committed to keeping the City of Thousand Oaks a great place to live and work.  The following arrest is an example of our commitment to the community to keep it safe and free from fear of intimidation by these thugs who live within our community.    The Thousand Oaks Police Department takes a zero tolerance stand against gangs or their activity in this city.

On April 19, 2013, at approximately 2:40 P.M., a male victim was parked and waiting to pick up his younger brother from Thousand Oaks High School.  The victim saw his brother walking east on Avenida De Las Flores and crossing Moorpark Road.  A male juvenile, 14 years old, approached the victim’s younger brother and challenged him to a fight.  The victim’s brother refused to fight.  S-Felipe, brother of the male juvenile, arrived and joined the conversation.  The victim exited his vehicle and went to his brother’s aide. S-Felipe threw a punch at the victim; the victim then punched S-Felipe in the face.  The male juvenile then pulled a switchblade type knife from his pants pocket, and chased the victim with the knife in his hand.   The victim and his brother were able to make their way back to their vehicle and leave the area.  The victim did not sustain any injuries.

On April 30, 2013, at approximately 3:00 P.M., a male juvenile victim and a female friend walked from Thousand Oaks High School to Acorn Acres Park.  While sitting on a park bench, the victim was approached by four subjects; two male juveniles, S-Felipe and S-Alvarez.  S-Alvarez and S-Felipe claimed their gang and told the victim to fight one of the juveniles one on one.  The victim refused to fight.  One of the male juveniles approached the victim, claimed his gang, and then punched the victim in the face.  S-Felipe and another male juvenile joined in and began punching the victim in the head and upper torso.  After several minutes S-Alvarez ordered the beating to be stopped.  The suspects stopped the beating, however, one of the male juvenile delivered one last kick to the victim’s rib cage.

The victim and his female friend walked back to Thousand Oaks High School to seek help.  The victim did not seek medical attention.

On May 29, 2013, in the early morning hours, 20 law enforcement personnel from the City of Thousand Oaks Special Enforcement Unit, Detectives Bureau, and the Bike Patrol Unit executed search warrants at four residences in the City of Thousand Oaks.

As a result of the investigation, 4 suspects were arrested for the attack at Acorn Acres Park and 1 male juvenile was arrested for the Assault with a Deadly Weapon in the street.

The above suspects were arrested for a variety of charges that include; Ga

New Eatery Chill & Grill Opens in Camarillo, Serving Shaved Ice, Grilled Items and More

UPDATE 2/18/14: Grill & Chill closed its doors on February 15, 2014 but indicates a new eatery Sesame Inn, will be opening there soon. I contacted Sesame Inn in Newbury Park and they confirmed they are in process of opening this second location at a future date TBA.

A new eatery, Chill & Grill, opened in Camarillo last week, located at 1775 E. Daily Drive, Unit G, in the same plaza as Brendan's Pub, Presto Pasta, Cafe India and other businesses. The space was previously occupied by Off the Hook.

Hmm, this could be interesting. Not to be confused with the Dairy Queen Grill & Chill that opened in the Camarillo Outlets that opened two years ago.

Chill & Grill sounds promising in that they sell Hawaiian Shave Ice, including Build Your Own and Shave Ice Shakes. Their menu also includes rice plates, sandwiches, salads and some great sounding burgers and hot dogs. I also see specialty and flavored teas on their menu.

Visit www.thechillngrill.com to learn more or call 805.383.8013. They are open 11am to 8pm seven days a week.
